Situps. Functional or not? Post thoughts to comments.

Today begins your opportunity to order apparel and have it delivered before Christmas. There are some items in the front office for you to look at. Orders must be placed by the end of the day Tuesday for delivery by Christmas. You can still place orders after this time but will not receive items until after new year.

The logo's (created by our very own Jen Shannon) for each apparel item are on paper and placed next to it's respective item. Since we are doing these by order, you have the option of choosing whichever colors are available. The men's sweatpants come only in Navy, Black, or Oxford (gray) whereas every other piece of clothing has many color options.

The prices are as follows and can only be paid for by check or cash (must be paid for upon placing order):

  2. I look at the workout for tomorrow, and it makes me have to use the restroom.....

    As for situps being functional: Of course they are. They increase spinal stability by strengthening the 'flexor' portion of the core. You want to pick up a big heavy rock, you need that core strength. It will even help you sit at a computer all day by supporting spinal alignment and lumbar disc stability.

    as for situps, they're certainly not useless, but i used to do situps all the time (decline, 45# plate, bla bla bla) and my abs were nowhere near as strong as they are now that i do heavy deadlifts and back squats, OH squats, etc. I just don't see how any kind of situp can demand the spinal stability from you that having 200# or more on your back requires.

  8. I think sit ups are definately a good movement to toss in with our weight training! Even though you can do 2,000 sit ups a day and not see that rock hard 6 pack you've been dreaming of... core muscles are essential in any other movement you do! Even walking! Many of the metcons and lifts we do are highly dependent on our core strength. As they say in the classes at 24 shitness... ENGAGE YOUR CORE!

  12. What the h*ll was that last post about? I hope that it gets deleted. This is a real blog dedicated to fitness and nutrition and support for people pursuing a better lifestyl and I for one don't want to have to weed out solicitors when I read, I get enough junk mail at home.

    If someone from our gym posted this, my apologies....maybe I didn't get what your trying to say?

    Anyway, I will be coming tomorrow if I have to wrap in a snow suit ;)
