God vs. Science

This was sent to me the other day and I thought some of you might like to read it as well. If you are not concerned with it then don't read it. I just found it to be very insightful on a number of levels, not just religion, even though that is what the article is about.

God vs. Science
A science professor begins his school year with a lecture to the students, 'Let me explain the problem science has with religion.' The atheist professor of philosophy pauses before his class and then asks one of his new students to stand. 'You're a Christian, aren't you, son?'

'Yes sir,' the student says.

'So you believe in God?'

'Absolutely.'

'Is God good?'

'Sure! God's good.'

'Is God all-powerful? Can God do anything?'

'Yes.'

'Are you good or evil?'

'The Bible says I'm evil.'

The professor grins knowingly. 'Aha! The Bible!' He considers for a moment.
'Here's one for you. Let's say there's a sick person over here and you can cure him.
You can do it. Would you help him? Would you try?'

'Yes sir, I would.'

'So you're good...!'

'I wouldn't say that.'

'But why not say that? You'd help a sick and maimed person if you could. Most of us would if we could. But God doesn't.'

5:30, Possibly 6:30 Classes
Class is on for both 5:30 and 6:30 but Joe and I have a meeting at 5pm tonight and thus will not be there but it will be covered by Jeff and Ich. We will try and be back for the 6:30 class but no promises. How about treating them like you would treat us, which means give'em a hard time.

Muscle-ups
A lot of you have been asking about muscle-ups lately and how you go about learning to do them. As with everything, there is a progression to learning them. You can either just make yourself do them or you can take your time and learn the progression. You can be rest assured that when Joe and I move CrossFit to it's new home and we have more than just 3 sets of rings we will have classes where we spend time just on learning how to do them. But for now here is a video from the original CrossFit Kids on the progression of getting muscle-ups. Enjoy!

Muscle-up Progression Demo



WOD
10, 20, and 30 rep rounds of:
Overhead Squat (75#/50#)
KB SDLHP (1.5 pood/1 pood)

Scale the oh squat load if necessary. The workout is as follows: 10 reps of each exercise, followed by the 20 rep round, and so on. Remember to keep the back flat and stay upright during the sumo deadlift high pulls. Try to refrain from bending the elbows before the hip has totally extended as well. Go hard, go fast, or go home.

  2. Life goal: to accomplish muscle ups just like the 13-year old kids on the video. The motivating music on the video helped, no doubt.

    Hope you all had fun with the sled dragging, sorry i had to miss it. I'll be there tonight!

  4. Can't make it in tonight because I have to go to a talk. But I will do the WOD here, and just use the 75# bar for the SDLHPs. I'll be in tomorrow morning.

    Also, the issue posted on the blog is one i teach in my intro class. see, guys, philosophy is awesome. right up there with muscle-ups and dr. mario.

  8. I did this mother earlier today, using the same bar with 75# on it for the SDLHPs. Took me 14:22. OH squats felt a little better today.

    OH Squats felt really good today and I have always liked SDHP. Only broke up the set of 30 Squats: 15 and 15. For SDHP did sets of 10, 10, 10, 15, 15.

    Not sure on the time to complete. I think I finally get this OH Squat and will push up the lbs next time. This has been a great week of progress for me. Thank you all for the encouragement. Have a great weekend.

  16. 8:52 with 53 lbs and 1 pood. overhead squats are a weakness of mine, but i think this was a good weight for me to practice to get better. i'm in a wedding tomorrow, so i will see you all on monday!

    Squats got me on the last round, I also took them very slow as my legs are killing me from thrusters. I like this one easy to push through.
