Excessive Aerobics

Ricky Frausto Filed Under:
No hard feelings to those of you that enjoy endurance events but excessive cardio is not healthy for the heart as once believed. In actuality, there is overwhelming evidence that endurance training leads to sudden death as witnessed by the deaths of many of the sports top performers. I have mentioned many times before that I am not against running marathons or doing triathlons but it's the training and malnourishment (carb loading is whack) that is detrimental. Check these links out as well as paying a visit to Arthur DeVany's website. (check out many of his archived posts)

Top Ten Reasons not to Run Marathons

Death by Exercise

Keep your distance training short and intense if that is what is on the docket for today. Anaerobic (sprinting, hills, intervals) training is a much more effective way of training for distance events. Much more so than running and biking for long distances, but don't take my word for it. Look at the evidence.

  2. Some first rate reading on a Sunday Morning, Thank you. I have done some research on the subject of running and endurance training for kids (hockey) and I personally believe that keeping it short and varied peaks the interest of the kids as well as their physical abilities. We need to remember when working with youth that physical activity is a lifelong process(health-enjoyment). Too many times I will observe a coach running their kids into the ground (punishment) stressing the benefits of the activity and turning the kids off. I apologize for rambling on this morning, just one of my pet peeves. See you guys tomorrow!
