Ricky Frausto Filed Under:

WOD
21-18-15-12-9 rep rounds for time:
Front Squats, 165 pounds
Slap Pushups

Prescribed weight for gals is 105 pounds. For the slap pushup, follow in the same pattern as a regular pushup, touching the body to the ground, but as you drive out of the bottom leave the ground and slap your hands onto your chest in mid-air.

You may scale by either doing clap pushups, leaving the ground without either clapping or slapping, regular pushups, or either of the previous three while doing them on your knees or with a band.

Post time to comments.

Either Amanda has lost a contact or she is bear crawling. Tough call.

UPDATE: For those of you that are interested, the challenge only counted those people that paid the $25 entry fee. There were some of you that took part in the challenge but did not pay the entry fee so your results were not counted in the challenge.

Okay, so here are the results from the "Cindy" challenge. There were two categories from which people could have placed in the top three. A most rounds completed category and the most improved category. The results are as follows:
Most rounds completed
1. Dustin Tovar ($40)
2. Lucas Lossen ($30)
3. Steve Filips ($20)

Most improvement
1. Reba Wattier ($40)
2. Mark Petersen ($30)
3. Greg Petersen ($20)

Which brings us to our next challenge. There is no entry fee for this one as it is a mini-challenge. This challenge is called the 50 Day Handstand Pushup Challenge. This friday before the actual WOD, we will grab a baseline for everyone that comes in. This baseline is one set of as many handstand pushups as possible. From here, you will follow in a fasion of doing one hspu the first day, two the second day, three the third day and so on until day 50 in which you will do 50. There are many rules that this challenge as well as yourself will adhere to in order for it to be reliable and valid.

Click here for the the actual rules and regulations. Please read carefully so there is little confusion come this Friday.

  12. This is crazy cause I was just reading the other day about a 100 day burpee challenge and thought that would be fun to give a try. But I definitely like the HSPU idea better. I am really looking forward to this one!

  14. I'm so down for the challenge!
Also...I am going to die tomorrow...definitely not going until the afternoon! I need to mentally prepare! :o) Haha.
So 4 for open gym or 5:30 for class it is!

Thank you so much for tonight Ricky! I've started to learn hang power snatches!
  15. paul Says:
  16. OUCH!

this was a sinister one--i always forget that front squats exhaust my shoulders.

17:10 scaled to plyo pushups, but otherwise Rx'ed.

nice job--that was a huge 6am class coming in to do a miserable WOD. well done!
  17. V Says:
  18. DNF!!! not even close. this workout made me realize just how weak i really am....dang it. only did 77 pounds for the squats (which i think is the most i've done so far) and just did the push ups where i pushed myself off the ground. This was the first time i did pushups in a workout off my knees, but i know my form was awful! guess I know what i need to work on the next rest day....everything! good job 6 am! way to go Ash, hannah, and Lindsey, you guys are animals! bitches did perscribed and still left me in the dust...I think crossfit drives me to drink ;)

...also i'm in for the challenge and i think we should do the burpee challenge too!

Never been happier to not have to walk up or down any stairs at work! Also, have never been more excited for a rest day!

Great work 6am class. I am pretty sure there are more people at 6am than at 5:30 now. Keep it up.

Time was called just as I wanted to start my first squat of the 9 round. This one kills the shoulders, I only did leaving the ground PU's. Great work everyone.

  27. hannah eileen Says:
  28. today killed me. i did rxd squats but only could do plyo pushups, but stuck with the 21, 18, 15, 12, 9 for both...well, i got through 21, 18, 15, and 6 squats. yup, DNF! then an aerobics class with too many squats and pushups. wonderful!

  38. Great.. my shoulder starts hurting, then we start a HSPU challenge and have a shoulder-heavy WOD. Thanks, Ricky. You're a gem.

Hannah, I'd love to laze about in the mornings and join yoiu for a leisurely WOD at 6, but sadly I'm already at work by then. The REAL early-risers work out at 5:30. WHAT. NOW.

Speaking of 5:30, I'll be there tonight - shoulder's a little goofy tonight - not sure if I should do a lighter load or something else entirely. Or maybe it will feel better by then. Magically.
  39. paul Says:
  40. Tovar, that is RIDICULOUS!
  41. BC Says:
  42. I went fully Rx'd on both the squats and the slapping pushups but didn't come anywhere close to finishing. I only managed 2 full rounds plus 5 squats. I've now reached that point where I need to really think about the weights I use and try to find that perfect balance of heavy yet manageable while still getting stronger. My favorite Ricky-ism for the day, "Heavy makes you shave twice a day." Love it. We should start a list, maybe eventually have top 10 Ricky-isms T-shirts.

I am most definitely resting tomorrow, see everyone Friday. And I am pumped about the HSPU challenge. Later crackas.

  44. Scaled w/ 73# and knee pushups just leaving the ground; was happy w/ the squats b/c last time in a workout only did 53# front squats but pushups need tons of work; finished in 19:19.
  45. Anonymous Says:
  46. DNF. Scaled front squats at 77#, and did regular pushups w/blue plates under my hands. It got thru 15 squats and only 10 of the 15 pushups.

This was tough. Pushups slowed me down the most. I'm finding it harder and harder to keep myself motivated. Way to go 6:30. You did awesome.
I'm w/you b christ, it is definately a rest day tomorrow. My legs feel like jelly!

  50. bchrist, i agree. we should keep a running tally of the top crossfit phrases...not just rickyisms.
add this one to the list:

  52. Hannah - gross!!! WHO?? Says that ;)

Rec'd weight and clapping pushups. I DNF by 9 clapping pushups. Thx Ricky for counting down loudly on those last 9 - what a b*tch that was! Thank god everyone was too busy to notice how loudly I was grunting....ridiculous

Libby ruined this one as usual, always nice to have her kickin *ss by your side :)
  53. Anonymous Says:
  54. Brutal today!! My legs were weak after that. 18:25 with 102lbs and did pushups just barely brining my hands off the ground. I need to keep my form better on those when I get tired.

Hannah I was thinking about Ricky's teabag comment from yesterday too when bc suggested a shirt :)

Libby you kicked that WOD's arse..nice work!! Thanks for pushing me at the end.
  55. Gdawg Says:
  56. DNF, got through the set of 12. my legs feel like JELLO! i refused to scale the weight for the squats because after thrusters i realized i really need to work on front squats. I broke the squats up in sets up 5 but by the set of 12 i had to go to sets of 3 or 4. i tried concentrating on keeping my butt under me on the way up...and grunting :-) thanks for all the cheers! i scaled to plyo pushups with a purple band...tough stuff!! great job today everyone! REST DAY TMROW!!!

  58. Way to go 6:30!!! Everyone did an awesome job! 16:55-ish Rx'd. Although, I cannot keep my head up for the life of me, during pushups. Working on that. Welcome to the new folks - I think 6:30 is quite nice, in spite of Joe telling us we're not social enough. :-)

  60. scaled 87# and plyo pushups- 16:45

  62. DNF today... I finished the last slapping push-up on the round of 12 when time was called. while I am disappointed that I didn't finish I am glad I went with the prescribed weight because I need to build more strength in my legs.

Great work 5:30... that was a lot of weight being moved tonight!
  63. Anonymous Says:
  64. 14:39 at 105# and I did just jumping push ups because it still scares the hell out of me to try and clap. I just picture myself slamming my face and knocking a tooth out. And that would suck. Today was really hard though. I loved it!!
I love the noon class! Great job today.
  65. BC Says:
  66. Good call Hannah. How the hell could I have forgotten that one?!? I'll start a list...it's not like I have anything else to do...serioulsy I don't, work, kids, crossfit, I'm pretty lame.
  67. Addi Says:
  68. Only got through the 12 squats... RXed weight on squats, but subbed out pullups with purple and tan bands to try to save my shoulder. This one might call for a rest WEEK.
I hadn't had a good crying-workout since UNO - I hope I didn't scare anyone off who hasn't seen me do that before! :) I think my body was just out of energy - been fighting off this cold and not sleeping well. I had nothing left in me.
  69. Anonymous Says:
  70. 77# scaled 18.......
    knee claps
