Ricky Frausto Filed Under:

WOD
"Diane"
21-15-9 reps for time of:
225 pound Dead-lift
Handstand Pushups

155 pounds is the prescribed weight for the real CrossFitters (ladies?)

In this workout, if you aren't able to use prescribed weights, you will drop the reps on the dead-lift (handstand pushups as well if this means doing them as prescribed) to one of the following schemes in the hopes of more weight being used on the bar. Remember, this is only the case if you can maintain a stiff, flat back through the duration of the workout. I want heavy, really heavy but not at the expense of bad technique.

Alternative rep schemes:
15-12-9
12-9-6
9-6-3

You have twenty minutes to complete the workout so if you are close to prescribed dead-lifts or hspu's, why not forget about getting the fastest time and worry more about getting closer to precription.

  2. So, I'm curious as to what you and joe think of the article...?

  4. So it would be better to work on a fuller range of motion and drop reps for the HSPU's right....?
I am looking forward to it though.

  6. I did prescribed weight (155) but wasn't sure if I could do prescribed reps so I did 15-15-9-6. I felt good after the first 15 reps so I thought I would jump up to the rest of the prescibed reps after that and did the 6 at the end. Last time I did dead lifts I did 100 lbs and had green plates underneath the bar so I was pretty pumped that I busted that crap out! I did the push ups the same reps but used bands...gotta work on those. Good job to everyone this morn especially Ashley, Lindsey, and Xtina!! I prob wouldn't have done as much if you hooches weren't there!!

Broke DL's 11-10, then 8-7, then 9. Broke HSPU all over the place.
As always a solid workout by the morning crew. Great work.

  12. great my arms are sore from what I did yesterday and then my weakness pops up "the HSPU".

I have ALOT of work to do on these. I don't mind working on HSPU's but they are just a weakness of mine.

  18. It's a good article from a somewhat unbiased but knowledgeable author. It was also great to see a member of our own individual affiliate pictured and admired in another forum. I agree and disagree with much of the content relayed in this article but the ideas that conclude these thoughts in the last paragraph of this article is where I am completely and totally in agreement with the author.

I love crossfit and its positive ideologies, but I hate the negative politics it sparks and the negative connotations some crossfit enthusiasts throw at opposing training methods.

The crossfit experiment was and still is predicated on open-minded and progressive thinking and coaching techniques. Thats why I love it and started doing it in the first place, because it accepts and includes the entire spectrum of athleticism and fitness.

So let us, as responsible crossfiters, move away from the persecution of alternative training methods and hold on to this idea of open-mindedness and keep sight of the overall "big picture".

As long as crossfit continues to advocate positive and progressive physical aptitude to all ages and genders then we are on the right path.

  34. i just did a (very) modified version at home:

    21 DLs, 42 air squats, 21 pushups
    15 DLs, 30 squats, 15 pushups
    9 DLs, 18 squats, 9 pushups.

used 225# for DLs and finished in 11:02.

    that SUCKED!

My deadlifts are slowly improving! They're not perfect, but I can tell when my form breaks down and I try to correct it. When I get tired, though, I still struggle.

I skipped yesterday due to temporary photophobia (yes it's a word, look it up!), so I will definitely be in tomorrow and Saturday!

  38. 17:45. This workout was a total cluster-f@ck...or maybe I am, depending on how you look at it. My DL reps were 21, 12 and 9 and towards the end they were definitely u-g-l-y, with no alibi. My HSPU reps were 12, 9 and 9, using what basically amounted to 2 ab mats. I definitely have a long way to go on my DL's but at least there was some improvement in my HSPU's. And Hannah and Angela taught me some interesting new things, including an awesome new pickup line. Thanks ladies.

Reba and Danielle, I have my girls this weekend so it'll be a game time decision as to whether or not we will be at the shower, but right now I'm leaning towards yes.

  40. Tonight was interesting, the deadlifts finally felt much better and i feel better about my overall form throughout. My HSPU's were hilarious, couldn't even remotely push one up!! My arms are TOASTED from yesterday's "rest day" wod. So I did negative HSPU. I have a BAD feeling about tomorrow....

    15 something....

BC hope you and your girls make it!! Plus they will LOVE the desserts we are having :)

  44. Scaled (I hate to say that) to 198 lbs and 15, 12, 9, 6, 3. But full range on HSPU's.

  46. frick. i hate myself after today. i did rx'd deadlifts but since im still not very confident inverted (bum shoulder) i only did 9-6-3 of hspu with 1 ab mat and a 5 underneath. so ridiculous. i finished in 10:38...yup 2x tovars entire time! sweet. great job 5:30! you guys are so impressive.
b christ, easy on using those lines or new found education in public places. :)
  47. A Says:
  48. SO I checked my ego at the door, and went down to ONE ab mat (used 2 5# plates underneath last time), and used 155# for DL. Tried really really hard not to round the spine. We'll see if I accomplished that, tomorrow. Finished in 15:42. Much laughter on the HSPU.
I am so sad to miss the shower - have a wonderful time, and congrats again to Ricky and Crystal! We love you guys!

Thanks For Visiting!
